the unwind: a workshop for yoga teachers
In January 2024, I led a workshop for yoga teachers at Wild Heart Yoga on the topic of the unwind: the studio’s newest class offering. I’ve been teaching the same class at 8 p.m. at WHY for the last decade, and as I’ve evolved so has it. Here’s the class description:
The Unwind is the Hatha yoga class your nervous system didn’t know it needed. Whether you’re dealing with chronic stress or just need practice slowing down, The Unwind is the place to build your relaxation skills. Expect a short period of gentle heat building poses, followed by slow and low movements meant to intentionally unwind each part of your body (back, wrists, shoulders, ankles, neck, etc). Suitable for all levels.
I created the unwind because it was the class I needed: one that considered trauma-informed theory and current research in neuroscience, nervous system regulation, and how to create safer spaces. This workshop not only shared a sequencing menu, example sequence, and key principles for creating safer spaces for all brains and bodies; it covered the why behind the theory. Below is a sample of the 40-page slide deck.
